Default Can someone help me find....

a good, new laptop? Given my current money situation (started college, got some extra money from b-day and grad parties) I was looking into buying a new laptop for me. I currently must share one

I really don't know anything when it comes to buying computers. I obviously want one that can handle some games. It doesn't have to be top notch material. It also can't be too expensive. $600-$700 maybe? I may go higher.

If anyone knows of any laptops like that,I would really appreciate your help. I want to make sure I spend my money on something that'll work with the things I do and not waste it on a computer that has all these extra features that I'll never use.

Just bought 2 Toshibas. 1 for the wife for christmas and has been running real nice, so got one for my mother-in-law. Cost about $750. They both have the 17" brightscreen display and full keyboard with numberpad. Just google Toshiba P205D and look at all the results.

If you don't mind refurbished pc's, Dell and HP both have outlet stores that present great discounts. My company has all Dell refurb laptops, I'm working on a Inspiron E1705, 17" widescreen, full keyboard, 120GB HD, Dual Pentium processor T2500 2.0 Ghz. It's been great for the last 2 years. Got a newer Dell laptop for my wife with tax rebate $ of around $650. The video can't really handle TF2, COD4, etc., but it does ok for older games, as well as handles work stuff great.

Just a thought, refurbs are usually repaired and hand-examined so I've had better luck with Dell and HP/Compaq laptops than new. Although for performance, stamina and reliability I think Toshiba and Sony are probably about the best. Plus at least for Dell, the base warranty is the same as new ones for most.

I suggest comparing the prices of ones found in the refurbs vs new ones feature wise and cost wise.

The main thing if you want to do gaming on it is the video card (and if Vista, amount of RAM).

Hot Deals - SlickDeals.net Forums

Look here, people usually post some really good deals on laptops. But it is something you need to check everyday. The deals usually expire that same day.

Thank you WEebble for being an intelligent buyer

For laptops I really wouldn't buy anything other than Toshiba for personal use, but that's just me... Dells are also pretty nice, and I've seen some decent Gateways and HPs...

Please do look into Toshiba though... My sister has a Toshiba satellite and I've ordered another A205...

I'd recommend these two though...
Toshiba Satellite L355-S7811 Laptop Computer - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2370 1.73GHz, 802.11bg Wireless, 2GB DDR2, 200GB HDD, DL DVDRW, 17.1" WXGA+, Webcam, Windows Vista Home Premium PSLD0U-00C00X at TigerDirect.com
Toshiba Satellite P205-S7402 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5GHz, 802.11abg Wireless, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, DL DVDRW, 17" WXGA+, Windows Vista Home Premium RB-PSPB3U-06900LB at TigerDirect.com

The 17" Widescreen is definitely nice... But you can't really game on those computers, as their onboard graphics (Intel X3100) isn't really a gaming card... I don't know how they take an expansion card, but my sisters has one...

You can watch DVDs and such on the 17" screen, and Vista looks good... It'll run Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and other common college things very quickly, so it's probably what you are looking for.

Keep the gaming to a desktop... As a $700 desktop build is much, much "faster" than a $700 laptop when it comes to gaming (well and everything else).
