True, Microsoft tries to scam people. Xbox live payment method is soo stupid and an obvious way that microsoft wants your money. Even if you buy one of those prepaid cards, you can't activate it unless you put in your credit card number.
That way, when you forget to "cancel" your subscription (even though it's prepaid for a certain amount of time you wanted) Microsoft can charge you for another years worth that you might not have wanted. Pain in the rear. What if I have all this money but no credit card? I wouldn't be able to play xbox live.
actually with the most recent card I used for XBL, I didn't have to provide a CC number... then again, that might just be because they have one already from an old card

If you are talking about prepaid cards, for me i bought a 12+1 and it expired 12 months + 1 later. i went to log on and it wouldnt work. so i wasnt charged anymore

Maybe microsoft workers are bears fans.... They must hate me because I've been charged $50 because I didn't "cancel" my account. If there's some way to buy a prepaid account without using a CC please let me know!
the only way they can charge you is if you set it up for monthly or w/e you did on the CC, just buy prepaid cards that way when it expires you wont be charged if youre not playing
